Standesamt photographer in Berlin, in English
If you're looking for a Standesamt photographer in Berlin who works in English, this page tells you what I offer and how the day runs. I photograph civil weddings at any Berlin registry office, from the moment you arrive to a short couple session nearby. The Standesamt collection is two hours for €690, booked online.
I photograph civil weddings for international couples in Berlin, so I usually meet you at the end of a long run of German paperwork. As an immigrant myself, I've had to start over from scratch a few times, and I know how much it helps when the day runs in a language you're comfortable with.
What's included in the Standesamt collection
The Standesamt collection is made for civil ceremonies at any Berlin Standesamt. It costs €690, and this is what you get:
Up to two hours of photography, and I arrive before you do
Your civil ceremony at the registry office
Congratulations, family and group photos outside the registry office
A relaxed 30-minute couple session nearby
A call before the wedding to plan the timing
At least 150 edited high-resolution photos in a private online gallery
A sneak peek of 20 photos within 48 hours
You can add time or extras: an extra hour costs €260, a second photographer €520, an engagement shoot €350, and an album starts at €590. All collections and extras are on my pricing page.
How it works
Booking a Standesamt photographer takes a few messages and one call. This is the usual order, from your first enquiry to your gallery.
Send me your registry office, your date (even if it isn't confirmed yet) and roughly how many guests you expect through the contact form.
We talk on a short call. You tell me about your families and your plans, and we work out the timing.
You book the Standesamt collection on the pricing page with a 30% deposit of €207. The deposit secures your date and is non-refundable, and the remaining 70% is due 14 days before the wedding.
On the day, I arrive before you and photograph the ceremony, the congratulations and your family groups outside.
We walk somewhere nearby for a relaxed 30-minute couple session.
Twenty sneak-peek photos arrive within 48 hours, and your full online gallery follows within a few weeks.
Is two hours enough for a Standesamt wedding?
For most civil weddings, yes. Registry offices book ceremonies in tight slots, for example every half hour at Rathaus Köpenick and every 40 minutes at Gutshaus Steglitz. The next couple is usually waiting when you come out, so the family photos happen outside and keep moving.
My rule of thumb for a weekday morning slot is 1.5 to 2 hours for the arrival, the ceremony, family photos and a short couple session. If you go on to a family meal, around three hours lets me cover the start of lunch as well. That's the Standesamt collection plus one extra hour at €260.
Photo rules at Berlin registry offices
Photo rules differ from office to office. At Rathaus Schöneberg, for example, the official handout says photos and film from the historic room may be restricted to private use and may not be published online. Schöneberg takes up to 20 guests, and no more than 30 people in the room including the registrar and photographers.
Before the day, ask your office three things: where the photographer can stand, whether flash is allowed, and how soon the room has to be cleared. Some offices also have house rules for guests. Schöneberg and Pankow, for instance, don't allow rice, confetti or petals. My guide to the most beautiful registry offices in Berlin lists rooms, guest limits and booking rules for ten offices.
Marrying in Berlin as an international couple
You can register your intent to marry no earlier than six months before your wedding date. Once the Standesamt approves it, you can marry at any registry office in Germany within six months. In Berlin, a ceremony at a different office from the one you registered with costs an extra €40.
If either of you doesn't speak enough German, you need a sworn interpreter at the registration appointment and at the ceremony. My guide on how to get married in Berlin as a foreigner walks through the documents, the interpreter question and the timeline step by step.
Your date is only final once the office confirms it. If yours is still open, say so in your enquiry, and we can talk through how a change would be handled before you pay the deposit.
After the Standesamt: lunch, a walk or a bigger celebration later
If you go on to a meal or a small party after the ceremony, an extra hour lets me stay for the start of it. If you want to celebrate outside, my guide to outdoor wedding venues in Berlin has ideas, such as the pier and tea pavilion at the Liebermann-Villa, which take up to 20 people for two hours.
If you plan a bigger celebration later, in Berlin or abroad, I photograph weddings across Europe, with travel costs quoted per wedding. If you're planning something small and private, my elopement photography page covers the Intimate collection.
2027 launch offer: €200 off for the first 8 couples who book by 31 January 2027. If you're comparing prices, my guide to what a wedding photographer costs in Berlin compares packages and prices.
Questions couples ask
How much does a Standesamt photographer cost in Berlin?
My Standesamt collection costs €690 for up to two hours at any Berlin registry office. It covers the ceremony, family and group photos outside and a 30-minute couple session nearby, with at least 150 edited photos. An extra hour costs €260.
Is two hours enough for a registry office wedding?
Yes, for most civil weddings. Two hours covers the arrival, the ceremony, the congratulations, family groups and a short couple session nearby. If a family meal follows, around three hours lets me photograph the start of the meal as well.
Can you take photos during the ceremony?
Yes, within the rules of your registry office. Photo rules differ from office to office, and at Rathaus Schöneberg photos from the historic room may be restricted to private use. Ask your office where the photographer can stand and whether flash is allowed.
How many photos do we get, and when?
You get at least 150 edited high-resolution photos in a private online gallery. Twenty sneak-peek photos arrive within 48 hours of the wedding, and the full gallery follows within a few weeks.
Can we book before the registry office confirms our date?
Yes, but contact me first. Send me your registry office and the date you're hoping for, even if it isn't confirmed. The 30% deposit secures the date and is non-refundable, so ask me how a date change would be handled before you pay.
Do you speak English with our families on the day?
Yes. I'm an English-speaking wedding photographer, so we can talk in English with you and your families all day. The ceremony itself is in German, with a sworn interpreter if either of you doesn't speak enough German.
Ready to start planning?
I photograph a limited number of weddings each year, so I can prepare properly for each one. A registry office wedding is short, and I want those two hours to feel easy for you and your families.
Get in touch here: send me your registry office, your date (even if it isn't confirmed yet) and roughly how many guests you expect, and I'll tell you how I'd plan the two hours. You can see every collection on the pricing page.
